Music Changed My Life
Ayano Kotani (F)
Shosha Junior High School
Have you ever thought about why you’re who you are today? In my case, I think there are two main things that have made me, me: my eyes and music.
My eyes are a little strange. This is because I can’t see anything if I use both eyes. When I look at something, my eyes cross. In photographs from when I was young, I’m never looking ahead with both eyes. When I was an infant, I went to the hospital for treatment, and since I was three years old, I’ve worn glasses. Now, my eyes don’t really stand out that much anymore. But so far a lot of unpleasant things have happened to me because of my eyes. I hated and was scared of showing my eyes to my friends. It took a long time for me to be able to make eye contact with people. It was very scary for me.
When I became a junior high student, I discovered music. This was thanks to the brass band club. I became completely absorbed in it. I practiced day in and day out. Brass band is not possible alone. It requires the sound and heart of every member. When everyone’s sounds become one, I feel delighted. Brass band became my favorite place. I changed greatly when I noticed this. I became able to speak my mind. I found a new self.
If I hadn’t discovered music, I wouldn’t have been able to spend that incandescent time with my bandmates. I am happy now, and it’s music that blessed me with such limitless bliss. I am human, as are you, and every human life is precious. There is no one in the world who is not necessary to someone. Look around. We all have loved ones. We all have people who need us. The friends who I met through music brought me happiness. It’s because of them that I was able to laugh even when I felt heavy. I am full of gratitude to them.
“I don’t know what’s around the corner, but I know it’s something good.’’ These words have always encouraged me. So far, the greatest corner of my life was joining brass band . The friends I met there, the many joys, and the many tears are all my treasured memories. Along the road that I’ve traveled, fighting to keep facing forwards, I’ve experienced many miracles. If I now think of even the smallest things as miracles, that is happiness itself. I will never forget the joy of laughing with my beloved friends. Is it not that feeling of warmth that is the source of our happiness?
The time we have now with the people we cherish is irreplaceable. Everyone, please live your lives with hearts full of joy.
